Xochimilco in Cancun?

For those who can’t make it to the original Xochimilco Canals in Mexico City, a new option will soon be available.

The colourful gondola-like experience, complete with mariachi, tequila, and antojitos (Mexican style snacks) will be replicated in Cancun as Xoximilco Park: An endeavor carried out by Experiencias Xcaret. This new park opens phase one on December 20th, giving tourists in the Riviera Maya the chance to get a taste of one of Mexico’s most well-known folkloric experiences.

Considered a homage to the original, the creators of Xoximilco Park hope to recreate it in as much detail as possible.

I have been through the canals of Xochimilco on ‘trajineras’ (the gondola-style roofed boats painted in bright colours) in Mexico City and loved it. I am curious to see how close the new park comes to duplicating the experience.
